Real Madrid knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League before Trent Alexander-Arnold was caught on camera appearing to mock one of his opponents
As if Manchester City's Champions League exit wasn't enough, Trent Alexander-Arnold added insult to injury on Tuesday. The England right-back was filmed taunting opponent Jeremy Doku after the final whistle, sparking a varied response online.
Real Madrid clinched their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium. Vinicius Jr netted twice to seal a 5-1 aggregate triumph and send City home.
The outcome was made all the more straightforward when Bernardo Silva received his marching orders just 20 minutes into the match. Real then comfortably progressed to the quarter-finals having easily dispatched Pep Guardiola's team.
However, that wasn't enough for Alexander-Arnold, who spent the entirety of his 83-minute outing up against Doku. Not that he felt too much pressure from the Belgian and his tricky runs down the wing.

The ex-Liverpool star was only dribbled past once during the second leg, aided by Real doubling and even tripling their man coverage on that side. That's a statistic he can be very pleased with considering Doku has previously had far more success against the defender.
The bragging rights stayed with Alexander-Arnold on this occasion, however. And the 27-year-old was spotted celebrating his accomplishment as he chatted with a team-mate (who appeared to be David Alaba) at the final whistle.
It's unclear precisely what Alexander-Arnold said, though it was evident from his body language whom he was mimicking. After all, it's hard to mistake Doku's distinctive style of dribbling, peppered with countless feints and rapid dips of his shoulders.
Not everyone believed the Englishman had earned the right to gloat, however, given the history between the two players. And more than one fan highlighted online that Doku broke a 10-year Premier League record by dribbling past the Liverpudlian more than 10 times when they met back in 2023.
"The audacity to clown someone who made you the most dribbled player in Premier League history in one game is actually crazy," read one comment on a post showing Alexander Arnold's mocking. Another fan wrote: "Doku must be living rent-free in Trent's head."

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky shows at least 215 live Premier League games each season, an increase of up to 100, plus Formula 1, darts, golf and more.
Others suggested the scoreline didn't necessarily reflect the story of their battle as a third spectator added: "This would have made sense if Doku didn't create four chances from his wing, including the chance that led to the [Erling] Haaland goal."
City's title ambitions have been shattered within a matter of days. Saturday's 1-1 stalemate at West Ham left them nine points adrift of Premier League pace-setters Arsenal, and their European elimination means Sunday's League Cup final and the FA Cup are now their only realistic paths to silverware.
Real, meanwhile, sit four points behind Barcelona at the summit of La Liga and must navigate a challenging Champions League quarter-final, most probably against Bayern Munich. Alexander-Arnold can only hope his opposite number displays greater modesty in triumph than him should Los Blancos fall short of lifting the trophy.
