Alvaro Arbeloa’s claim that he will stand by his most talented Real Madrid players could be seen as a boost for Trent Alexander-Arnold amid recent claims that he could be forced to leave the club.

Reports from Spain have stated that Arbeloa, the former Liverpool defender who replaced Xabi Alonso as head coach earlier this month, is not keen on Alexander-Arnold. Numerous reports from Spain have stated that Arbeloa sees the 27-year-old as a defensive liability and has advised him to look for a move elsewhere.

However, his recent comments ahead of Sunday’s game against Rayo Vallecano would suggest otherwise, with Arbeloa keen to stress he wants his star men playing as much as possible.

There have been concerns about Real’s recent form and the balance in the side under Arbeloa, with Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior playing every minute of the last four games.

Thibaut Courtois and Federico Valverde have also started the last four, leading to suggestions that the quintet will never be dropped.

But getting as much offensive quality on the field at once is clearly a priority for Arbeloa, which should be seen as a positive for Alexander-Arnold.

“I always want to have the best players on the pitch, and the more minutes they can be available to the team for me, the better,” Arbeloa said, when asked if the five players were "untouchable."

“These are players who can shake up a match at any moment. There will be people who aren't Madrid fans who don't want them on the pitch, but I imagine Madrid supporters want their best players always available, always on the field.

“I think the five players mentioned are among the top 10 in the world, and so they have my full trust.

“And it's not just my trust -- their performance is what's putting them on the pitch.”

Real’s form under Arbeloa has been underwhelming. Los Blancos dropped out of the top eight in the final round of fixtures in the Champions League phase on Wednesday and were recently eliminated from the Copa del Rey by second-tier Levante.

“Look, we're working to find the consistency we want in our game and at all levels, and I think right now it's neither a time for disappointment nor a time for euphoria,” said Arbeloa. “It's a time for work, nothing more.”

As for Alexander-Arnold, he is currently out through injury and has not yet featured under Arbeloa. The right-back is expected back next month.
