Several rules were broken during Arsenal's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich have been hit with two fines following three rule violations during their Champions League match against Arsenal. The Gunners secured a 3-1 victory at the Emirates, and now the German titans have been penalised further, on top of failing to earn any points from the game.
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has imposed fines totalling €70,000 (£61,000) on Bayern Munich.
The charges levelled against Bayern include 'Throwing of objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR', 'Crowd disturbances, Art. 16(2)(h) DR' and 'Transmitting message not fit for a sports event (illicit banners), Art. 16(2)(e) DR'.
The CEDB has chosen to fine FC Bayern München €40,000 for crowd disturbances and the throwing of objects, and an additional €30,000 for transmitting messages unfit for a sports event.
There were noticeable disruptions in the away end at the Emirates Stadium before the match started, with some friction between fans and stewards. Police had to step in to separate groups of agitated Bayern supporters.
This isn't the first time Bayern Munich have faced sanctions from UEFA. The Bavarian side's fans were prohibited from attending a match at the Emirates last season, during the Champions League quarter-final in April.
The sanctions were imposed following incidents where supporters launched fireworks and objects onto the pitch during an away fixture at Lazio in February 2024.
Bayern had already been under a two-year probationary period with a suspended one-match away ban following a comparable incident in their group stage encounter at Copenhagen in October 2023.
Arsenal delivered a commanding 3-1 victory last month, handing Bayern their first European defeat of the campaign. Mikel Arteta's side struck first through Jurrien Timber's 22nd-minute opener.
Young talent Lennart Karl responded with a swift equaliser, but couldn't stop the north London outfit from preserving their perfect record.
Second-half strikes from Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli sealed a memorable triumph for Arsenal.
Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich, however, declined to acknowledge Arteta's side as the strongest opposition they'd encountered this season.
When questioned whether Arsenal had been Bayern's most challenging adversaries, he told TNT Sports Brazil: "No, I don't think so. I think PSG were the toughest one, especially the way they play football.
"Arsenal is completely different. They rely on set-pieces. They love to play the long balls, they love to fight for the second balls, it was a completely different game.
"Against PSG, it's more a football game. Today, it was not so much about football, it was about game management, it was more about the duels. The win was well-deserved, but we have to learn from this game."
