Just days before the Champions League kicks off, UEFA has made a last-minute alteration to the squad rules for European competitions, a change that could potentially favor Liverpool.
The Reds are set to commence their campaign in the competition with a match against Atletico Madrid at Anfield in the first gameweek next week.
Last season, Arne Slot's team made it to the last-16 of the Champions League, only to be defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout. This term, Liverpool will be aiming for a more successful run in the competition, with the final slated to take place in Budapest in May next year.
Liverpool is one of six English teams participating in this season's Champions League. They'll be joined by Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
In the league phase of the competition, the Reds will go up against Atletico, Galatasaray, Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Inter Milan, Marseille, and Qarabag.
According to the Mirror, a rule change by UEFA now allows Liverpool and all other clubs in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League to adjust their registered squads throughout the league and group stages.
"The Executive Committee approved an amendment to the 2025/26 UEFA men's club competitions' regulations to admit the temporary replacement of a maximum of one outfield player with long-term injury or illness during the league phase until matchday 6 included," read a statement from UEFA on Thursday.
"The reasoning for the adaptation is to ensure that squad lists are not unfairly reduced and players are safeguarded from additional workload pressure."

Matchday six no longer represents the concluding fixture in the Champions League following the introduction of the revised format last season.
Liverpool's sixth league phase encounter will see them face Inter Milan on December 9, before subsequently taking on Marseille and Qarabag in their remaining fixtures prior to the play-off round.
