Victor Osimhen might be regretting making his feelings clear on Liverpool before the Champions League draw was confirmed.

The Nigerian striker will come up against the Reds again next month after Liverpool was drawn against Galatasaray in the last-16 of this season’s competition. The Turkish side booked their place next month’s round after seeing off Juventus in the play-offs.

The tie sees Arne Slot’s side returning to Istanbul, having already paid a visit to Turkey during the league phase when they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray, with Osimhen grabbing the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Despite having happy memories of facing Liverpool, Osimhen has already admitted he doesn’t want to come up against the Reds again.

Speaking to CBS Sports after his side’s aggregate victory over Juventus this week, the 27-year-old confessed he wanted to avoid the Reds completely, despite having a 50-50 chance of facing them before Friday’s draw eventually pitted them against each other.

"I mean to be honest with you, meeting Liverpool now is going to be like some sort of revenge," Osimhen said on Wednesday.

"Anyone we meet now... I wouldn’t say much but I would like to escape Liverpool.

"But if they come, yeah, we’re going to dig it out but it’s not going to be easy. I mean, this is the Champions League. No team is easy; we can see how flying Bodo/Glimt are really doing in this tournament.

"If you want to win, you also have to play the big dogs and make a statement for yourself.

"We’ve met Liverpool, but we haven’t played at Anfield. If we meet them, it’s going to be an amazing game. I think we’re up to the task, it’s not going to be easy, of course, but we have fight in us."

Details of Liverpool’s tie with Galatasaray are set to be confirmed in due course. The Reds will travel to Turkey for the first leg on either March 10 or 11, before returning to Anfield for the second leg on March 17 or 18.

Should Liverpool get revenge on Galatasaray, a quarter-final meeting with one of Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea would lie in wait, before a potential reunion with Trent Alexander-Arnold in the semi-finals.

Should the Reds make it to the last four, they would come up against one of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Atalanta or Bayern Munich. The final then takes place in Budapest on May 30.
