Video: Jamie Donley scores Championship goal and Tottenham may need him there next season

Tottenham academy graduate Jamie Donley ensured that Oxford United emerged with all three points from a relegation six-pointer in the Championship on Thursday.

A whole host of Spurs youngsters made loan moves in January, and many have made bright starts to their spells in the EFL.

However, one man who did not have the start he would have hoped for at his new club is Jamie Donley, who was recalled from his spell at Stoke City in January and loaned out to Oxford United.

Donely suffered a clash of heads during an aerial duel on his debut for Oxford in the FA Cup, which left him unconscious for a short period, but thankfully, the injury was not as serious as initially feared.

Donley made his return to the side a couple of weeks ago in Oxford’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Sunderland.

The attacking midfielder showed his quality on Wednesday, netting his first goal for the U’s as they emerged with a 1-0 win over Blackburn at the Kassam Stadium.

Donley, who featured as the number 10, was the first to pounce on the ball inside the box after a head was saved by the Blackburn goalkeeper Balazs Toth.

Donley could leave Spurs permanently this summer

The Tottenham Hotspur academy midfielder will hope to make his mark at Oxford over the next few months to make up for a disappointing spell at the Bet365 Stadium.

However, if the youngster were to perform at a high level across this spell, he may not return to Hotspur Way this summer.

This is because Oxford has a £4.5m option to purchase Donley permanently at the end of the season, according to Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe.

If Oxford pass up on the chance, Tottenham may actually need the midfield next season. Championship-proven talent will be required if relegation becomes a reality.
