Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal shirt number revealed as transfer timeline for announcement given

Arsenal have reportedly now reached a full agreement with Sporting CP to complete the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres.

An update from The Athletic explains that the two clubs, who have been in negotiations for a number of weeks, have now settled their differences over the nature of add-ons incorporated into the overall €73.5 million (£63.7m) package.

football.london had previously reported how the Gunners and their Portuguese counterparts had already concluded talks over the structure, set at an initial €63.5m (£55m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons.

Thus, it is said Gyokeres now has the approval to travel to London and undergo his medical. This is expected to take place tomorrow, Saturday, July 26.

Signing his contract at the same time will officially confirm the 27-year-old as Arsenal's sixth summer signing, part of what rise to a £195m haul ahead of the next attempt to win the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta's side are in Asia for pre-season, so Gyokeres would follow on if he is to make his unofficial debut either against Newcastle United or Tottenham Hotspur.

For that, the striker will have to have been assigned a squad number and in the The Athletic's report they claim to understand Gyokeres is to follow in the footsteps of club legend Thierry Henry.

The No.14 has been vacant since Eddie Nketiah completed his £30m move to Crystal Palace last summer and it is said Gyokeres is to become the next custodian. This detail won't be officially confirmed until the Gunners announce the signing.

There had been some intrigue behind which number the Sweden international would choose as choices at previous clubs are occupied in north London.

While scoring 97 goals in two seasons at Sporting he has been their No.9, which Gabriel Jesus wears at Arsenal.

The No.17 he held at Coventry City before that is then already Oleksandr Zinchenko's.

Interestingly, the coveted No. 10 shirt is also up for grabs following Emile Smith Rowe's exit 12 months ago but it is suggested Gyokeres has gone straight for Henry's former digits instead - a bold move.
