Viktor Gyokeres could soon be disrupted by Gabriel Jesus' return to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta watched his side comfortably overcome Club Brugge 3-0 in Belgium to extend their perfect Champions League record to six victories out of six. If there was one bone of contention, it was another invisible display from Gyokeres, who was outshone by fellow summer signing Noni Madueke.

The Swede's arrival from Sporting Lisbon was heralded as the final piece of Arsenal's title-winning jigsaw puzzle. They may be top of the Premier League and the Champions League, but their lofty positions are down to their close-to-impenetrable defence, rather than his goals.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

Gyokeres boasts six goals in 18 appearances, which is a solid, but far from spectacular return for a player who cost £64m. The No. 9 position appeared to be his and his alone, after reports claimed Gabriel Jesus could be sold by the club.

However, Arteta clearly changed his mind after exploiting a UEFA loophole to register him in his Champions League squad. And it already looks like a clever move after his encouraging display in Belgium.

The Brazilian returned to Arteta's squad for the visit to Brugge and was introduced for Gyokeres after only 62 minutes. Despite playing half the amount of minutes, Jesus had more touches of the ball than the powerful striker and looked much livlier and more dangerous.

It's fair to say Gyokeres and Jesus are completely different players, even if they do occupy the same position. However, the attributes Jesus brings appeared to suit the Gunners more against the Belgian giants.

Jesus' link-up play was superior to Gyokeres, who is at his best getting on the end of crosses or passes in behind. On this basis, it's perhaps better to compare him with Mikel Merino, a defensive midfielder who has starred as a makeshift centre-forward for the Gunners.

Even the Spaniard has more goal contributions than Gyokeres, pitching in with five goals and three assists in 22 appearances in all competitions. Merino looked to be Gyokeres' biggest worry in regards to his place in the team.

But the reintegration of Jesus poses a completely different issue for Gyokeres. Arteta is yet to make any suggestion that Gyokeres' place in the starting eleven is under threat. However, he would've been impressed with Jesus' cameo, especially considering it came off the back of such a long lay-off.

His monstrous tally of 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances for Sporting last season is enough to suggest Gyokeres is worth persisting with. But the Gunners' margin for error is getting thinner and thinner with every passing week.

Manchester City are only two points away in the Premier League table, due to the Gunners' recent record of two wins in their last five league matches. Gyokeres has one Premier League goal since September, his first-half goal in the 2-0 away victory over Burnley.

Arteta will have a degree of patience, taking into account the step-up in quality and physicality that Gyokeres is coming to terms with. But City are not just in the rear-view mirror, they are within arm's reach. Gyokeres has been a passenger in matches far too often, failing to bring other players into the game as well as make enough of an impact himself.

Jesus' title-winning experience with City and his alternative attributes may be called upon by Arteta, while Merino is the ace-in-the-pack who always seems to catch opponents by surprise. The thought of Gyokeres losing his place was unthinkable at the start of the campaign, but the case to start the ex-Coventry City forward is becoming harder and harder to make.
