Viktor Gyokeres has taken the drastic step of reportedly not reporting for pre-season training with Sporting Clube de Portugal as Arsenal pursue a move.
Sporting had given the striker an extended break - changing his return date from July 7 to July 11. During that time, Arsenal have been engaged in negotiations with Sporting but without any success thus far.
Reports from Portugal have suggested that the deal between Arsenal and Sporting could collapse over disagreements regarding the structure of the fee.
However, football.london understands that, despite these rumours, there is still an expectation that Gyokeres will complete his move to the Emirates Stadium.
Gyokeres was due to report for pre-season on Friday but was absent, despite being required to rejoin the squad by Saturday before they travel to the Algarve for their summer training camp.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the striker is still in Sweden.
It's noted the 27-year-old is on 'strike', and only a 'last minute' development in negotiations can convince him to return to Portugal.
The report highlights that he is still 'furious' with the slow progress and delay his transfer to Arsenal.
He also believes Sporting president Frederico Varandas has gone back on a pact to let him leave for €60million (£52m) plus €10m (£8m) in add-ons - a figure Arsenal have already exceeded, yet no agreement on a fee has been reached.
Sporting, meanwhile, will reportedly wait until Saturday before going public on the matter.
They will 'wait to see' if Gyokeres will remain absent 'without justification.'
A Bola also notes that five consecutive unjustified absences or ten intermittent ones could provide sufficient grounds for the player's dismissal.
However, it's unlikely Sporting would take such action, as it would mean losing their most valuable asset.
However, Gyokeres is expected to receive 'heavy fines' from the club.
The Sweden international is prioritising a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
