Viktor Gyokeres thinks hard about Arsenal chant on ex-girlfriend before seven-word response

Viktor Gyokeres found himself in an uncomfortable position when quizzed about a chant Arsenal supporters have created which references his former girlfriend.

The striker was placed in an awkward spot as a journalist mentioned the popular song that implies the Sweden forward ended his relationship to secure his switch to the Emirates.

Gyokeres moved to Arsenal for £63.5million during the summer window following a dispute with previous club Sporting CP, where he eventually refused to train.

The 27-year-old was also reported to have concluded his romance with actress Ines Aguiar as he 'didn't want anything to tie him to Portugal' whilst pursuing his transfer, according to Portuguese media.

Footage of Arsenal fans belting out the song has surfaced on social media. The supporters chant to the melody of Salt-N-Pepa's 'Push It' and make reference to the situation in the lyric: "He dumped his girlfriend, to play in red and white."

Gyokeres, who has netted twice in his opening three Premier League appearances, has experienced tremendous warmth from Arsenal's faithful during his initial weeks in north London. The Sweden international has already expressed this sentiment upon his return to Sweden.

"They have been absolutely incredible," Gyokeres commented, via Swedish publication Sportbladet. "They have shown me an incredible amount both during and outside of the games. I am extremely grateful for that."

When pressed more specifically about the chant, the former Coventry City frontman hesitated whilst mulling over his response. "I have no comments about the song," he then stated.

Gyokeres is currently on international duty, preparing with Sweden for World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo. The striker will be keen to return to form following Arsenal's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta's team faced criticism for their lack of offensive drive after the loss. Gyokeres has already come to his team's defence following comments from ex-Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, who described the Gunners' style of play as 'sad to see'.

"It's easy if you're not on the pitch to say what you think and feel about a match," Gyokeres told Aftonbladet. "Then it's difficult to steer it where you want. We did well defensively, and they didn't get many chances.

"Then we would have liked to do even better offensively. It's not easy to do all the pieces perfectly every match."

The Gunners return to action on September 13th where they'll host Nottingham Forest before welcoming Manchester City to the Emirates Stadium a week later.
