Arsenal's summer transfer window sparked into life during July, and it appears their landmark move is all but agreed.
Football.london understands that a £55m initial fee with £8.7m in add-ons has been agreed with Sporting for the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres on Tuesday. The Swede made it clear throughout the summer that he wished to leave Portugal and it appears that he has now managed to get his way.
In our latest look at the media headlines we take a look at what is being said surrounding the agreement with Sporting for Gyokeres.
Gyokeres compromise made
According to Record, compromises from both Arsenal and Sporting have managed to get the deal over the line. It is claimed the Lisbon club's president Frederico Varandas wanted the whole £8.7m easy to achieve and for £6.5m of it to be achieved in the next two seasons.
However, the Gunners have managed to reach a compromise with Varandas by agreeing to the full £8.7m add-ons being easy to achieve but for them to be activated over a longer period of time.
What FL says: Andrea Berta and the rest of Arsenal's recruitment department deserve huge credit for managing to talk Varandas down and verbally agreeing a move for Gyokeres. At some stages this summer, a deal looked like it was never going to be completed. Sporting's president did lose some of his bargaining power when Gyokeres did not report for pre-season at the beginning of July but still, this could have been dragged out for longer than it has and it is a credit to the Gunners that they are going to get their man during their pre-season tour of Asia.
Nwaneri persuaded to leave Arsenal
According to Sky Sports Germany, Jobe Bellingham has been trying to persuade Ethan Nwaneri this summer that he should move to Borussia Dortmund. It is claimed the midfielder, who knows Nwaneri having played with him for England's U21s last season, was trying to get him to wave goodbye to the Emirates Stadium.
Dortmund were reportedly willing to pay £26m for the winger but FL understands that Nwaneri decided he was best placed to remain at Arsenal. He is believed to have agreed a new five-year deal keeping him at Arsenal until 2030.
What FL says: Getting Nwaneri to commit his future to Arsenal was a big boost for the Gunners however the offer from Dortmund must have been tempting. They have a consistent track record of giving young players the chance to develop and become world beaters. Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and more recently Jamie Gittens have all earned big moves having excelled at the German club. While Nwaneri's camp have rejected claims he has tried to demand more playing time, Arsenal will know they must repay his faith and give him more opportunities moving forward.
