Villarreal currently sit 26th in the Champions League standings with one point from their opening two matches. The Spanish side began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Tottenham, before playing out a 2-2 draw against Juventus.

Domestically, the Yellow Submarine are enjoying a strong start to their La Liga season, occupying third place with 17 points from nine games. Their recent form has been solid, recording two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five outings. In their most recent match, Villarreal earned a dramatic 2-2 draw with Real Betis, thanks to Antony’s 94th-minute equaliser.

Villarreal’s matches have tended to be entertaining affairs, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games, and both teams finding the net in four of those fixtures.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are eighth in the Champions League group stage table with four points from two games. Pep Guardiola’s side started with a 2-0 win over Napoli, followed by a 2-2 draw with Monaco in a match they arguably should have won.

City are in excellent form, unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions and winning four of their last five. Over the weekend, they eased past Everton with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of an Erling Haaland brace, taking his tally to 14 goals for the season. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in two of City’s last four games.

Given Villarreal have conceded 13 goals in 11 matches this season, Erling Haaland will no doubt be eager to add to his impressive goal tally. While Villarreal are a quality side, there’s little to suggest they’ll be able to match a Manchester City team currently in top form.
