Virgil van Dijk has called Liverpool "slow" and "predictable" after Wolves snatched a late victory at Molineux.

The Reds struggled to create chances throughout Tuesday's game and were punished in the 78th minute when Rodrigo Gomes gave Wolves a 1-0 lead. Mohamed Salah immediately hit back for Liverpool by scoring his first Premier League goal in four months.

Yet there was still time for Wolves to find a winner, and it came through Andre's deflected strike in the 78th minute. The result leaves Liverpool fifth in the Premier League table, three points ahead of Chelsea in sixth, having played a game more.

Liverpool captain Van Dijk spoke to TNT Sports after the game and admitted his team's shortcomings.

"I think it's down to ourselves," said Van Dijk. "It was slow, we were predictable, sloppy in possession and wrong decision-making.

"We didn't concede chances, but if you perform like that, then a result like this can be a result of that, and that's a fact. It was disappointing."

The Reds didn't have a shot on target during the first 30 minutes of the game. "It's not one reason why that's the case," added Van Dijk when asked about Liverpool's slow start.

"The game nowadays, we over-analyse why things are happening on the pitch. We as a team want to start a game as well as we can, and in the last game we did.

"Today, we had majority possession, but we were still making wrong decisions, and we couldn't find the end product."

Both of Wolves' goals were avoidable from Liverpool's perspective.

The opener came after Van Dijk failed to deal with a long ball upfield, allowing Wolves star Tolu Arokodare to control the ball and put Gomes clean through on goal.

Andre's winner came after Alisson failed to clear the ball from danger, finding Wolves midfielder Jackson Tchatchoua around 40 yards from goal. Tchatchoua played the ball to Andre, who had the time and the space to get his shot away.

On the goals, Van Dijk said: "Conceding goals is always frustrating. We've come on the back of a couple clean sheets. Defensively, we've been very solid.

But it is what it is, and we have to move quickly on because we come back here in a couple of days and we want to do well in the FA Cup."
