West Ham draw up four-man replacement wishlist as Graham Potter faces the sack

1 hour ago 40

Graham Potter is fighting to save his job as West Ham manager due to mounting pressure. The club's top brass are seriously contemplating a change, with ex-Nottingham Forest gaffer Nuno Espirito Santo being the front-runner for the job.

Former Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, ex-Wolves manager Gary O'Neil and former Everton chief Sean Dyche have also been in the mix. Potter, 50, has had a tough time at West Ham since taking the reins last January, with the team languishing second from bottom after securing just one victory in their first five matches.

There were significant fan demonstrations against the board prior to their most recent loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday, with David Sullivan and Karren Brady bearing the brunt of the supporter backlash.

However, the Hammers loyalists did vent their frustrations at the players and Potter during and post the Palace match, which has further jeopardised the manager's position, as reported by the Mirror.

Vice chair Brady did publicly back Potter last month, but results have not picked up since then, apart from their lone win this season at Nottingham Forest. The club has always supported managers and given them every opportunity to turn things around, which is why they have stuck with Potter so far.

But they face a crucial decision in the coming days over whether to stand by Potter in the short term, let alone to see if he can steer the ship around. West Ham's forthcoming match is against Everton on Monday, 29th September, and it's a pivotal one - assuming he remains at the helm to guide the team at Goodison Park.

Potter seemed to acknowledge that his role and future are in serious jeopardy following the club's disastrous start to the season.

After the Palace match, Potter stated: "I understand the climate, the expectation, the environment. I have no complaints at all about the club or the support we've had, but I understand the results are not positive. We have to accept that and change it around. We need to improve, find that balance and solution."
