The Champions League is finally back in business, and Tottenham Hotspur will be kicking off another European journey with a trophy under their arms and some swagger to go with it.
Thomas Frank will kick off his first season in charge of Spurs with a visit from Villarreal in Europe, as the London outfit competes in the elite competition for the first time since 2023. The Lilywhites will be aiming for a positive start in the European competition, after making it three wins out of four in the Premier League so far. This has Frank's squad sitting pretty in second place, after a 3-0 thrashing of West Ham United helped them climb above north London rivals Arsenal on goal difference alone.
The new Champions League format is similar to the domestic league, with points tallied across a phase of 36 teams rather than clubs grouped into fours. The first eight teams will automatically qualify for the knockout stages, with the next 16 sides heading into a play-off round.
