After sealing an $88 million (£66 million) transfer move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, the Colombian winger Luis Diaz has been unveiled in an introductory press conference in Germany.
And the former Liverpool number seven has revealed the conversation he had about the Bundesliga with Florian Wirtz before the deal was agreed. The Germany star could have joined Bayern Munich himself before rejecting that switch in favor of a move to Anfield, but he had nothing but positive things to say.
Wirtz and Diaz were teammates at Liverpool for a matter of weeks after the former sealed a record-breaking move to England. Bayern signed the latter instead of Wirtz and Nico Williams, who also turned down its advances.
"I spoke to Florian and he told me that the Bundesliga is very intense, similar to the Premier League, that it was very physical, and the stadiums are always full," Diaz explained.
"He also told me that Munich is a very nice city and that I'd enjoy it. He wished me luck, and I thank him for that."
Diaz has played against a couple of his new teammates when they were in the Premier League, and he was asked what it would be like to line up alongside Harry Kane and Michael Olise.
"I'm really looking forward to playing with them, but also with the whole team," he said. "Harry Kane is a great striker with incredible qualities, and he will support me a lot.
"Michael Olise has similar qualities to me. I'll learn a lot from the others and am very happy to share the dressing room with them. I want to get to know them all."
Diaz scored 41 goals for Liverpool in total, with 17 of those coming under Arne Slot in 2024/25. He initially wanted to explore leaving Liverpool a year ago, but stuck around for another season and won the Premier League title.
The Reds made a couple of attempts to discuss a new deal with Diaz, but he wanted a fresh challenge. Liverpool made a profit of around $30 million (£23 million) on what it paid for the player when he arrived from FC Porto.

"I like to enjoy football, and I always have a smile on my face," Diaz said. "I have a strong character on the pitch. Smiling is always important. Being at such a big club is special."
Liverpool.com says: Diaz's move to Germany looks like a good move for all parties. For the Colombian, he gets a fresh start at another big club. Bayern gets a good player, and Liverpool gets a good price.
It would be no shock to see Diaz perform well in the Bundesliga. He always had an appetite to work hard and chase down intensely at Anfield, which should translate well to the German game.
