Former Chelsea captain John Terry has thrown his support behind Mohamed Salah after his bombshell Liverpool interview. The forward sensationally accused Liverpool of throwing him under the bus as he revealed his relationship with Arne Slot had completely broken down.

The Egypt forward has 19 months remaining on the £400,000-a-week contract he signed in April but he also claimed at Elland Road that this weekend's game against Brighton & Hove Albion could be his last at Anfield. Salah was named as a substitute for the third successive match in Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Leeds United and immediate future is also unclear.

The forward reported for training on Sunday as scheduled, but it remains to be seen whether he will travel with the squad to Milan to take on Inter. But Terry believes Salah was right when he said he has been made a scapegoat by the club and has every right to be outraged for being left out.

The former Chelsea captain said: "Do you think he's been made a scapegoat or been made one by the Liverpool manager? I think he'd be the first one to say he's been out of form this season, but I have to agree with him as well. I think he has been made a scapegoat a little bit. I think a lot of Liverpool players, including himself, have been out of form recently.

"And to leave him out - I'm not being funny, if there's one player that can win you a game, it's going to be him, so it's a big call from the manager.

“Also, when you keep him on side, when you bring experienced players in the office and give them the reasons why they are being left out, you have nowhere to go but being shown that respect from the manager is really important."

Speaking on Saturday, Salah said. “It’s funny but I couldn’t believe it. It is a really disappointing result for us as a team because we expect to win a game like that.”

Asked what he could not believe, the forward replied: “That I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes! The third time on the bench, I think for the first time in my career.

“I’m very, very disappointed to be fair. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season.

“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise.

“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.

“I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.

“This club, I always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much I will always do. I called my mum yesterday – you guys didn’t know if I would start or not, but I knew.

“Yesterday I said to them, come to the Brighton game. I don’t know if I am going to play or not but I am going to enjoy it.

“In my head, I’m going to enjoy that game because I don’t know what is going to happen now.

“I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go the Africa Cup of Nations. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”
