Man United secured the bragging rights at Old Trafford thanks to a 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the derby.
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez revealed that Michael Carrick told the squad to use the support of Old Trafford to inspire them to a win over Manchester City in the Premier League. The Reds came into the derby with the pressure on after Ruben Amorim's departure and recent disappointing results.
However, they looked like the team with more confidence and could have been 2-0 up at the break had it not been for tight offside calls against Amad and Bruno Fernandes. United kept up the pressure in the second half and it finally told in the 65th minute.
Following a City free kick, United hit the visitors on the counter with Fernandes laying it off for Bryan Mbeumo to slot home. The result was put beyond doubt 11 minutes later when Matheus Cunha's cross was tapped in by Patrick Dorgu. Mason Mount thought he had made it three but Cunha was offside in the build-up.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Martinez said: "One important thing Michael Carrick said was 'use the energy of the people'. Today I think we did it. When we are together it is impossible to lose at home."
City found it difficult to break down the United defence and Martinez explained how they managed to keep their forwards quiet. "When you play against this kind of players, the team defends," he said. "Not just one or two players. Today we defended so well. We were so compact all the time and then you have the confidence to go into the duels.
"You feel today a different energy in the eyes of the players. Today the team won, that's the most important thing for me."
On the result, he added: "Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Being here with the fans, with the team, we really know how we suffer during the season.
"But the only way is putting the face here and showing here who we are. Today is the best moment to do it. Not just the players on the pitch, the staff, everyone was part of that."
