What Pep Guardiola told Savinho following his failed Tottenham Hotspur move

1 hour ago 2

Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed the conversation that Pep Guardiola had with Tottenham target Savinho after the closure of the summer transfer window.

It was widely reported that Savinho was keen on joining Spurs in the summer, but Man City decided that the winger was not for sale.

According to some sources, Tottenham tried until transfer deadline day to strike a deal for Savinho, but the Manchester club refused to budge on their stance.

Over the last few weeks, various outlets have said that Spurs will try again to land Savinho in January, but a move now looks a lot more difficult for the North London club.

Man City have been able to persuade Savinho over his future despite Tottenham push

We have heard over recent days that Man City are advancing in talks over a new contract for Savinho, who is on course to commit his long-term future to the club.

Tottenham Hotspur fans may hold out some hope until the news of the winger’s contract becomes official, but journalist Graeme Bailey has now claimed that the 21-year-old has already been persuaded that his future lies at the Etihad Stadium.

Bailey told TBR Football: “I am told that after the window closed, both Guardiola and Viana (Man City’s sporting director) had lengthy talks with Savinho, where they underlined their belief to him that he has a major part to play.

“They have a huge belief in his talent and admiration for him as a person. Hearing the backing he has, Savinho has been persuaded that his future lies in Manchester.”

Which player should Spurs turn to after Savinho failure?

According to some sources, Spurs have already started exploring alternatives to Savinho ahead of the January transfer window.

Some Tottenham fans want to see the club make an audacious move for Antoine Semenyo, who has been one of the best players on show across the Premier League so far this season.

Spurs’ offensive struggles against the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth and Villarreal suggest that the Lilywhites are certainly in need of another creative spark in attack.
