Liverpool's 2019-20 season will forever be remembered as one of the fans' favorites as the club not only won the Premier League for the first time, but also did so in dominant fashion.
Jurgen Klopp fully delivered on his promise when he joined the club, stating it would take four seasons to win a league title — doing so in his fourth full season with the team. Arne Slot delivered the club's second Premier League title — and 20th championship overall — this past year. It came in a strange season, with the Premier League having three months off amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Liverpool.com has taken a look at the squad from that season, detailing their roles throughout the campaign and where each player is now.

He remains at the club, with one more year remaining on his contract. The following season could be his last, with the Reds signing Giorgi Mamardashvili to a significant contract.
Adrian — The Spaniard joined as a free agent as a surprise addition as Alisson's number two, with the club seemingly not feeling that Caoimhin Kelleher was ready to make the step up. Adrian became an instant hero at the club after his heroics in the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea. He made 11 appearances in the Premier League before Kelleher took over the back-up job in his second year. He stayed with the Reds for five years before leaving for Real Bets in 2024, where he remains.

Trent Alexander-Arnold — Arguably the year that Alexander-Arnold began to establish himself as a superstar, the right-back finished behind only Kevin de Bruyne with the most assists, with 13. At just 21 years old, he was a key player in Champions League and Premier League-winning squads. He controversially left the Reds this past summer, joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Neco Williams — Williams' first-year with the first team, the young right-back made six appearances in the league while putting in impressive performances in cup competitions. He left the club two years later after being Alexander-Arnold's back-up, signing for Nottingham Forest for around $20 million. Williams is still a regular starter for Forest.
Joe Gomez — The versatile defender played a big role with the team in the Premier League-winning season, making 28 appearances in the league while regularly starting alongside Virgil van Dijk. He remains the longest-serving current player on the team.
Joel Matip — A down year for Matip personally, having multiple injuries that limited him to just nine league appearances, with Gomez earning the starting spot. He remained with Liverpool until 2024 before surprisingly retiring aged 33.
Virgil van Dijk — Arguably the greatest central defender in world soccer, Van Dijk put in an incredible season while being in the Ballon D'Or conversation in 2019. He continued that form into 2020 while dominating at the back. He is now Liverpool's captain and has one more year on his deal after this season.

Dejan Lovren — The fourth-choice center back by this point, Lovren did make nine starts in the Premier League while being a beloved figure in the locker room and close friends with Mohamed Salah. He left the team in the summer to join Zenit St. Petersburg. He now plays for PAOK in Greece.
Andy Robertson — Liverpool's first-choice left-back had an incredible season in what was his third year with the team, being third in assists behind De Bruyne and Alexander-Arnold. He announced this week he will leave the club after nine years with the team, with Milos Kerkez now becoming the main man at the position.
Fabinho — While Fabinho starred toward the end of his first season with the Reds, he had established himself as one of the great defensive midfielders in the sport by his second year. Instrumental in Klopp's set-up, Fabinho was arguably the Reds' most important defensive player behind Van Dijk. He left the club in 2023, moving to Saudi Arabia after signing for Al-Ittihad.
Jordan Henderson — Henderson spent 12 years with the Reds, eight of them as captain, before leaving for Saudi Arabia in the same summer as Fabinho and Roberto Firmino. He joined Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq before signing with Ajax. He is now at Brentford.
James Milner — Liverpool's vice-captain and locker room leader, Milner was not a regular starter in the Premier League-winning team but played a vital role in the club's success that year. He left in 2023, joining Brighton, where he remains today, aged 40.
Georginio Wijnaldum — A regular starter alongside Fabinho and Henderson, Wijnaldum had another impressive season and established himself as a Liverpool legend. He left the club in 2021, when his contract expired, joining PSG before moving to Saudi Arabia alongside Henderson with Ettifaq.

Naby Keita — Liverpool's number 8 had injury issues again throughout the season, but still played a vital role with 27 appearances. He never truly lived up to the hype at the club, moving on to Werder Bremen. He now plays for Ferencvaros in Hungary.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain — Arguably his best year with the club besides his impressive first year, Oxlade-Chamberlain was behind only Salah, Mane and Firmino in goals scored throughout the season. He played in both central midfield and on the right wing, staying with the club for six years before joining Besiktas. He is now with Celtic.
Adam Lallana — Lallana's final year with Liverpool, in which he made 22 appearances in all competitions. He left for Brighton in 2020 before ending his career in Southampton, his home club. He retired last summer and became Southampton's assistant coach.
Curtis Jones — The Liverpudlian youngster's breakthrough season with the team, making 12 appearances in all competitions, including his sensational game-winner against Everton in the FA Cup. Jones is still with the Reds, fighting for game time in a stacked attacking midfield unit alongside Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Xherdan Shaqiri — The Swiss attacking midfielder played a limited role in the season after struggling with injuries, but Shaqiri had already ingratiated himself with the fans due to his heroics in the Barcelona game in the Champions League. He stayed with the Reds for three years before moving out to the MLS. He is now back with his hometown club, FC Basel.

Takumi Minamino — The Japanese star joined the club in January after impressing against them in the Champions League with Red Bull Salzburg. His appearances were limited to the four attackers below. He stayed with the club for two-and-a-half years before signing with Monaco. He is still with the team, currently sidelined after tearing his ACL.
Mohamed Salah — A dominant season for Liverpool's talisman, scoring 23 goals while adding 13 assists in all competitions as he led the Reds to their first-ever Premier League trophy. He remains with the club, making a case for being the team's greatest-ever player in the Premier League, announcing he will leave at the end of the season.
Sadio Mane — Mane added 22 goals and 12 assists throughout the season in Liverpool's electric front three, establishing himself as one of the best left wingers in world football. He won every major trophy with the Reds before moving to Bayern Munich, where he stayed for just one year, and then joined Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.
Roberto Firmino — Liverpool's number 9 played a unique role for Klopp's team, leading the front line but regularly dropping deep and acting as another midfielder without the ball, while getting the best out of Salah and Mane as playmakers for them. He moved to Saudi Arabia in 2023, before joining Al Sadd in Qatar in 2025.
Divock Origi — After scoring those goals against Barcelona and Tottenham in their Champions League-winning season the year before, Origi went on to score seven key goals in the Premier League. Origi's role with the Reds quickly diminished after the season, spending two more years as a role player before moving on to AC Milan. He left the club recently, still being a free agent.
