Everything you need to know about James Wilson as Arsenal hold talks with Hearts over the Scotland internationalon transfer deadline day...
- Arsenal talks: The Gunners are in talks with Hearts over signing James Wilson after having another offer rejected by Blackburn Rovers for Igor Tyjon. The Scottish club are open to loaning out the 18-year-old, who would play for Arsenal's under-21s.
- Wilson's World (Cup chances): Scotland capped Wilson in their Nations League play-off against Greece just 17 days after the striker turned 18. That appearance made him the youngest player to ever feature for the senior national team, breaking a 138-year-old record.
- Hearts' striker situation: The Scottish Premiership leaders are without their injured captain, Lawrence Shankland, but Wilson is struggling for minutes. He was not even in the squad for their 3-0 win over Dundee United last weekend.
- Wilson's season so far: Hearts have given Wilson just 10 outings this season, and even in limited minutes, the striker has two goals, both during the Scottish League Cup group stages. He has not started a match since August, though, making just three substitute appearances since.
- Under-21s dominance: Wilson continues to play for Scotland's under-21s and scored four goals in five games in European Championship qualifying. All four came against Gibraltar, including a hat-trick in their 12-0 win.
- International eligibility: Before being capped by Scotland, Wilson represented Northern Ireland at under-17 level in 2022, before switching that same year. He was also eligible to represent England and the Republic of Ireland through his parents.
- Arsenal approach sparks other interest: The Gunners are not the only club interested in Wilson, according to The Sun. Their loan approach, which would effectively be a trial in the club's under-21s, has reportedly sparked interest from elsewhere.
- The Gunners also want another Scottish starlet: Arsenal have also expressed interest in St Mirren player Evan Mooney. The 18-year-old midfielder was part of their Scottish League-winning team earlier this season, coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Celtic.
