Tottenham Hotspur have a number of exciting young talents in their ranks now, but Lucas Bergvall might just be the most impressive of them all. So, who exactly is the Swedish prodigy?
Spurs fans were made to wait for the arrival of Lucas Bergvall after the club signed him in the January transfer window and left him on loan in Sweden for six months.
He took some time to adapt to life in England, too. But, Bergvall has slowly but surely proven his worth and his talent under both Ange Postecoglou and now Thomas Frank.
So, let’s get to know the teenager, from his past career to his market value, his international career, and his height and weight.
Where did Tottenham sign Lucas Bergvall from?
Tottenham snapped up Bergvall from Swedish outfit Djurgardens IF. He came through the academy at Brommapojkarna before that.
Funnily enough, Brommapojkarna is the same club that Dejan Kulusevski started his own career at in Sweden.
Bergvall really caught the eye at Djurgardens, particularly in his last Swedish campaign in 2023/24, where he registered six goals and five assists.
Tottenham signed Bergvall for a reported fee of £8.5m on deadline day in January, with the youngster picking the Lilywhites over a move to Barcelona.

What kind of player is Lucas Bergvall?
Bergvall primarily plays the number eight role, but also has the ability to push further up into a number ten role behind the attackers.
He’s got incredible ball control, skills, and agility, which make him really effective at dribbling through opponents and helping his team progress up the field. Bergvall also has a keen eye for a pass, and is able to break the lines quickly on the counter attack.
Bergvall is also capable of popping up in the box to finish an attack, although his goalscoring record at Spurs is not that great. During his time in Sweden, we saw that Bergvall enjoyed a long range shot from outside the box, too, but we’re also yet to see that here.
Lucas Bergvall’s salary and market value
Bergvall is currently valued at around £34.8m according to Transfermarkt data. That’s actually not a bad estimate, either, and it would mean Spurs have more than doubled their money on the youngster already.
Interestingly, Liverpool were rumoured to be looking at a £52m move for Bergvall, but Tottenham have no intention of selling even at that price.
As for his salary, Bergvall is, rather understandably, quite low down in the Tottenham wage bill. According to figures at Capology, the Swedish starlet earns £60,000 per week (or £3.12m per year).
That’s less than the likes of Kevin Danso, Pape Sarr, and Archie Gray, but is actually more than Mathys Tel, Yves Bissouma, and Djed Spence.
Interestingly, Bergvall was only earning £15,000 per week when he joined Tottenham. His original deal ran to 2029, but he signed a new contract in April 2025 to extend his stay in N17 until 2031.
A difficult start to life at Spurs
Not only did Bergvall have to wait six months to join Spurs officially, but he’s had to bide his time for first-team opportunities at the club, too.
Postecoglou was very patient and sparing with his young players for much of the 2024/25 campaign. Bergvall made a number of appearances in the Premier League as a substitute, but it was in the cup competitions where he has been given more time.
Bergvall made his first start for the club in the Carabao Cup tie against Coventry City, and also started the Europa League opener against Qarabag. His involvement there was cut short due to Radu Dragusin’s early red card, which left Bergvall very upset and disappointed.
He was given another start in the second game, against Ferencvaros, but struggled to make things happen, often losing the ball and making poor decisions, most likely as a result of wanting to impress so badly after his frustrating outing in the competition the week before.
However, as the season went on and injuries piled up, Bergvall became more and more involved and was especially useful in the latter stages of Tottenham’s triumphant Europa League run.

Lucas Bergvall’s international career with Sweden
Bergvall will no doubt be a top player for Sweden in years to come. He’s already made his senior debut and has a handful of caps to his name
Given he has developed very quickly, Bergvall hardly had time to represent Sweden at the various youth levels and was fast-tracked to the senior setup in 2024.
He made his debut as a substitute in a friendly against Estonia in January. He was then called up to the squad again for the September international break, getting minutes in the Nations League ties against Azerbaijan and, coincidentally, Estonia, again.
He’s been in and around the senior squad ever since, but actually getting on the pitch ahead of the more experienced players is another matter.
Personal information
Lucas Bergvall was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on February 2, 2006.
He is 1.87m tall, but weighs just 74kg, giving him a very tall, lean, athletic build. He’s not the strongest player, but he is dynamic and agile.
Bergvall’s parents played a pivotal role in helping him choose to join Spurs, and they have moved to London with him.
He is also in a relationship with Mackenzie Medlock. Sadly, Mackenzie had to disable comments on her Instagram back in 2024, after Barcelona fans trolled her due to Bergvall turning down the Catalan club.
You can find Lucas Bergvall on Instagram, where has over 400,000 followers. He does not have an official Twitter/X account, so beware of any profile claiming to be him, as there were fake accounts being used over the summer — Tottenham Hotspur helped to shut these imitation profiles down at the time.
