Who is Mohammed Kudus?

Born on 2 August 2000 in Nima, Ghana, Mohammed Kudus stands at 1.75m (5 ft 9) and currently plays as a forward for Tottenham Hotspur under head coach Thomas Frank.

Kudus developed through the renowned Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before making the move to Europe with Danish side Nordsjaelland in January 2018.

Only three days after turning 18, Kudus made his professional debut for the club, starting up front in a 2–0 defeat against Brondby IF, and in doing so became the ninth youngest debutant in the club’s history.

Mohammed Kudus at Ajax – injuries, trophies and development years

On 16 July 2020, Kudus made the step up to Ajax for a reported fee of €9 million (£7.6 million), penning a five-year deal. He debuted in the Eredivisie on 20 September and went on to make an instant impact with a goal and three assists in his first three games.

Kudus’ Champions League debut came shortly after, against Liverpool, though his night ended prematurely due to a meniscus injury that ruled him out for months.

After returning in early 2021, Kudus gradually found form, scoring in a 4–0 win over Sparta Rotterdam and playing 13 of the final 14 league games as Ajax secured a domestic double.

His 2020–21 campaign ended with 22 appearances, four goals and three assists, alongside the KNVB Cup title. Injury issues continued into the 2021–22 season, with Kudus missing over two months due to an ankle problem and a rib fracture while on international duty.

Despite limited starts, he made important contributions, including a goal in a 5–0 win over Fortuna Sittard and featured in 11 of the last 13 league fixtures as Ajax clinched the Eredivisie title.

Mohammed Kudus breakthrough at Ajax and West Ham

The 2022–23 campaign proved to be Kudus’ breakout year at Ajax. He scored his first Champions League goal in a 4–0 win over Rangers and later made headlines with a free-kick goal against Sparta Rotterdam, lifting his shirt in tribute to Christian Atsu. Kudus ended the season with 18 goals and seven assists across 42 appearances in all competitions.

He kicked off the following season with a goal against Heracles and signed off with a Europa League hat-trick versus Ludogorets.

On 27 August 2023, Kudus joined West Ham United for £38 million plus add-ons, becoming the third Ghanaian to represent the club.

He scored on multiple fronts – including a brace in the Europa League and a stunning scissor-kick against Brentford, which earned him Goal of the Month.

Kudus also scored a solo effort dubbed a ‘goal of the season contender’ by Joe Cole in a 5–0 win over Freiburg. His 13-goal tally made him West Ham’s all-time top-scoring Ghanaian, surpassing Andre Ayew, and he finished the campaign with the most successful dribbles in the league – 124 in total.
