Why Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven raged at Mo Kudus during Tottenham win

Spurs secured a much-needed win on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Brentford in the Premier League, but Mohammed Kudus got a telling off.

It had been a difficult week leading into this league fixture, as Spurs were winless in their last five league outings after defeats to Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham.

However, a determined Tottenham side took to the pitch against Brentford and secured a 2-0 win over the Bees.

It was the Xavi Simons show with the Dutchman being the creator and scorer during the afternoon in what was a coming-of-age performance.

Tottenham were also desperate for a clean sheet as they were without one since 26 October, when they secured both their last win and a shut-out.

As is the case these days, defending is not left to only the back four, and when Mohammed Kudus looked to undo the hard work of the entire side, both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were raging at the Ghanaian international.

This came after Kudus attempted a cocky keepy-uppy flick and then kicked the ball out of play for a throw-in.

Brentford went through on goal from the resulting throw-in and almost scored, before Romero pulled off a last-ditch challenge. Both Romero and van de Ven then screamed at Kudus in a real captain-type moment.

Kudus was eventually taken off in the final moments as Frank looked to keep things tight in midfield, bringing on Pape Matar Sarr.

Spurs secured a win and a clean sheet, restoring the feel good factor in N17 after a rough run of recent league fixtures.

Speaking on the incident, van de Ven made it clear how the players viewed that moment and why the reaction was so fierce.

He told football.london: “We just want to keep a clean sheet with the back line, I think that is the most important part.

“So every time someone is doing, I would not call it strange things, but you know what I mean, we need to be on them, we need to keep them awake, we need everybody to keep them awake, and make sure we get the three points. Just keep defending like we did the whole game, and I think that is important in these moments.”
