Why Randal Kolo Muani did not even play a minute for Tottenham against West Ham

Fabrizio Romano reveals what Thomas Frank and Tottenham are thinking about Randal Kolo Muani after the striker’s first two weeks at Hotspur Way.

Kolo Muani arrived at Tottenham on loan from PSG on a deadline-day deal and was one of the few players who spent the last two weeks at Hotspur Way, having not been called up to the French national side.

After watching clips of Kolo Muani in training drills, many Spurs fans would have expected the 26-year-old to get the nod to start against West Ham, given that Richarlison had been in action for Brazil during the international break.

However, it was Mathys Tel who started upfront at the London Stadium, with the on-loan PSG man remaining an unused substitute as Spurs emerged 3-0 winners.

Randal Kolo Muani is still building up his fitness at Tottenham

Frank’s selection of Tel was particularly surprising, given that Kolo Muani has been included in Tottenham’s Champions League squad, while the former Bayern Munich man has been left out.

It has now been explained by Fabrizio Romano that the newcomer is still working his way up to full fitness, having not had a pre-season.

When asked if Thomas Frank has big plans for Kolo Muani, Romano told GiveMeSport: “Yes. They are just building his fitness as he has been out of the PSG squad for a long time.”

Thomas Frank is open-minded about his striking options

Most people who have watched the Tottenham newcomer in action would agree that his best performances have come as a centre-forward.

However, according to reports, Frank is open-minded about Kolo Muani and sees him as an option who can play across the front three.

We know that the Dane is a fan of versatile attackers, and in Kolo Muani, Richarlison, Tel, and Mohammed Kudus, he certainly has four players who can play interchangeably and offer him plenty of options.
