Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a transfer for Antoine Semenyo is over, but one possible scenario could cause this to work in the club’s favour.
Tottenham Hotspur made some good signings in the summer transfer window, but failing to sign a left winger was an idea which has turned out to be just as bad as it seemed at the time.
Thomas Frank has rotated between Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson as well as exploring a front two partnership, but this has not resolved what has become a major problem.
Antoine Semenyo is one player who Spurs have been linked with, and the Bournemouth star is probably among the best wingers in the Premier League at this moment in time. However, Manchester City are leading the race to sign Semenyo, rendering a move to Tottenham highly unlikely, especially with Fabrizio Romano claiming Spurs have ended their interest in the Cherries talisman.

Tottenham could have another chance to sign Savinho
Spurs attempted to sign Savinho in the summer, but they were unsuccessful in their pursuit. The Brazilian then put pen to paper and signed a new deal, ruling out the likelihood of a move away from Manchester City any time soon.
However, if Semenyo ends up joining Pep Guardiola’s team, that opens the door for Savinho to leave the club, meaning Tottenham could swoop in and finally sign the 21-year-old.
Savinho has not started a Premier League match since October, and his chances would decrease even more if he had to compete with Semenyo. Therefore, Spurs would have a real chance of bringing their transfer target to North London, where he could be guaranteed regular starts.
Savinho could be persuaded to push for a Spurs move
It was reported in the summer that Savinho was tempted by a move to Tottenham, and surely that temptation will only continue to grow as he continues to make appearances from the bench.
Spurs have a gaping hole in their team, and Savinho has the skills required to fill it. If Semenyo does join City, then this move could well come to fruition.
