Why Tottenham will find it difficult to persuade Harry Kane to return to N17

1 hour ago 1

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed what Harry Kane is thinking about potentially leaving Bayern Munich next summer and has handed Tottenham a warning about re-signing the striker.

Kane’s release clause drops to just £57m next summer, and it has been suggested by some sources that Spurs will try to pull on Kane’s heartstrings to convince him to return to N17 next summer.

In fact, Thomas Frank himself has admitted that he would love to have Kane at Tottenham if the England captain is in favour of a return.

Spurs have a first-refusal clause in place for Kane, but they have been warned that it will be far from easy to convince him to return to his former stomping ground.

What Tottenham will have to do to convince Harry Kane to return

Over the weekend, the Bayern Munich star broke his silence on the speculation over his future, with Kane insisting that he is happy at the Allianz Arena.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now said that even if the 32-year-old leaves Bayern, he will want to compete for the biggest trophies in the game, and warned Tottenham that they will face competition from many elite clubs.

O’Rourke told Football Insider: “For Kane right now, he’s having a good time at Bayern Munich, scoring plenty of goals and competing for trophies.

“He would want to go to a club that’s going to give him the opportunity to be successful and win more trophies and honours as well. I’m sure Tottenham will be in the mix if he decides to leave Bayern, but they’re going to face a lot of competition for him and it won’t be straightforward.

“It won’t just be other Premier League clubs, the likes of Chelsea and Man United who have been long-term admirers, but Barcelona as well. If Kane does leave Bayern Munich next summer, there will be no shortage of offers, and he will want to be successful and playing at the highest level possible.”

How Bayern Munich are responding to Kane transfer speculation

Reacting to the speculation over the striker’s future, Bayern director Max Eberl insisted that Kane wants to continue to win trophies at Bavaria.

Manager Vincent Kompany refused to even discuss the rumours over Kane’s future when asked about the former Tottenham man potentially leaving at the end of this season.

However, until Bayern potentially do away with the striker’s release clause and hand their number nine a new contract, one would expect the speculation to persist.
