Arsenal’s work on signing a new striker in the summer transfer window continues with a deal yet to be completed .
The focus remains on Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international made headlines with his goalscoring exploits in Portugal last season.
He scored 54 goals in 52 appearances last term, also providing a further 13 assists. So it’s no surprise that there has been somewhat of a clamour to try and secure his signature this summer.
Arsenal appear to have beaten off interest from other Premier League clubs for Gyokeres and lead the race for the player. despite progress having being made on the deal earlier this month, he is still not an Arsenal player.
As reported by football.london over the weekend, Arsenal remain calm as they continue the final stages of talks with Sporting over a deal. A €63.5 million (£55m) fee with €10 million (£8.7m) in add-ons has been agreed in principle.

However, the delay is due to the clubs negotiating the final structure of the deal, particularly how the add-ons are achieved. Gyokeres himself is committed to a move to Arsenal, with sources in Portugal saying he’s become ‘frustrated’ with the delay, which has prevented him from travelling to Asia for Arsenal’s pre-season tour.
If, or when, a full agreement is reached between the two clubs, Gyokeres will be able to undergo a medical and finalise his move. He will then be able to join up with his new teammates in on the tour if the deal is done in time.
Depending on when the transfer is finalised would determine when the striker could make his debut for the club. The friendly against Milan at the Singapore National Stadium on Wednesday (12:30pm) would surely come too quickly.
The Gunners are in action again on Sunday when they take on Newcastle United at the same stadium (12.30pm). They then travel to the Kai Tak Sports Park to take on rivals Tottenham on Thursday, 31 July (12.30pm).
