Diletta Leotta, the wife of former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, remains defiant in the face of criticism from trolls who condemned the outfit she chose for her daughter's second birthday party.
The television host is partnered with Karius, who famously struggled during his time in the Premier League, and has been enjoying her summer break alongside the current Schalke stopper and their young child. Leotta, who boasts 9.2million Instagram followers, shared a farewell to summer post on the platform, marking her idyllic period with the message: "You gave us the most beautiful memories."
The 34-year-old included a series of photographs showing her basking in the sunshine, wearing swimsuits, and wandering through the scenic Burgenstock Resort nestled beside the Swiss Alps.
Leotta recently faced backlash from trolls in her Instagram comments for wearing a see-through dress during her daughter's birthday party.
"Perfect look for a baby girl birthday," wrote one user on Instagram, while another wrote: "But why dress like that for a birthday, both her and her friends. Y'all are embarrassing."
The DAZN host responded to her critics with a resolute declaration, informing La Gazzetta dello Sport: "It's clear that image is part of our job, especially for those in television, but if you turn out to be a container without substance, you won't get very far.
"Even today, I study, I prepare, I try to stay up to date: that's the key.
"Also, a nice dress is a pleasure to wear; being well-groomed, pretty, and pleasant to look at, I think, is also a matter of respect for the viewer, but I think that applies in any work environment.
"Envy isn't a concept I'm familiar with, but I don't know if it's a personality issue or if it's because I grew up in a family full of women, with a mother who was always there for me and never passed this kind of feeling on to us children.
"On the contrary, I remember rejoicing in my sisters, brothers, and friends. I admired my brothers, who are all older than me, and I thought, 'Wow, they did it, I want to do it too.'
"My brother has a degree in medicine, my sisters in law and architecture: for me, they were a motivation. I deeply love and appreciate women and men who achieve their goals; I think they can only be a source of inspiration.
"The problem is that we live in the age of social media, which is full of not-so-great comments. The problem is that maybe those people who write those comments are the same ones who actually ask you for a photo or a greeting."
Karius joined Liverpool in 2016 and was part of the first-team squad for two seasons. He was sent out on loan to Besiktas in 2018 after his poor showing in the Champions League final, making two mistakes in the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid.
Another loan spell at Union Berlin followed before he eventually left Liverpool in 2022 after his contract expired. He then spent two years at Liverpool before joining Schalke.
