Spurs fans will love what Xavi Simons has told the Dutch media about the reasons behind his decision to sign for Tottenham Hotspur.
After being snubbed by both Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze earlier in the summer window, Tottenham needed to get a top-class number ten through the door to make up for that embarrassment.
In the end, the club managed to pull off a very impressive deal, with Spurs securing Xavi Simons for just £51m.
The transfer fee might have been low for a player who is considered one of the best young attacking midfielders in Europe, but the overall cost of the deal was pretty high for the Lilywhites.
According to reports, Simons has agreed a seven-year contract worth £200,000 per week with Tottenham, bringing the total cost of the deal to a whopping £125m.
Xavi Simons admits he got the right feeling from Tottenham
Previously, Simons revealed that his conversation with Thomas Frank was a big factor in his move to Spurs.
The Netherlands international has now elaborated on his decision, explaining that he got a very good feeling about the club and added that his conversation with Micky van de Ven convinced him that it would be the right next step.
Simons told NOS: “At PSV, for example, after a conversation with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, I knew: this is where I need to be. I also had that feeling at Leipzig and also at Spurs, where I also met Micky [van de Ven].
“I knew: I want to be there too. That’s where the best players are. I want to be the best too. I know what I want to achieve and I’m going to do it.”
Simons admits his family played a role in Spurs move
The 22-year-old confessed that his family members visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and were blown away by the atmosphere at the venue.
He added: “Before I signed, my family went to the stadium. My eleven-year-old sister’s reaction was amazing.”
Simons got a great reception from Spurs fans when he was presented to them ahead of kick-off against Bournemouth on Saturday.
