Xavi Simons has revealed his excitement about making the step into the Premier League, admitting he cannot wait to pull on the Tottenham shirt and begin his journey in English football.
Tottenham Hotspur head into the September international break off the back of a bitterly disappointing defeat, with Thomas Frank’s side losing 1-0 at the hands of Bournemouth.
It was a flat display from Tottenham, who looked second best throughout as Andoni Iraola’s men restricted them and barely gave them a sight of goal, leaving Frank with plenty to ponder going into the break.
Amongst the crowd watching on was new signing Simons, who recently arrived from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €60m (£51m), and the midfielder would have been itchy to get on the pitch having watched his teammates struggle to create chances.
Tottenham new boy Xavi Simons speaks on Premier League dream
The Dutchman, despite featuring a few times for RB Leipzig earlier this summer, is still waiting for clearance to make his official Spurs debut and could only observe the match from the stands at the Vitality Stadium.
Speaking in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Xavi Simons made it clear just how eager he is to pull on the white shirt of Tottenham and get his Premier League career underway.
He said: “I cannot wait to start the game and to play in the Premier League, so I am really happy. I am really happy to take this step, and am looking forward.”
Spurs waiting for Simons boost amid injury problems
Tottenham are currently without two of their most creative midfielders, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined through injury, leaving Frank short of options in the final third.
Once Simons is granted his work permit and completes his international duties with the Netherlands, he is expected to be immediately integrated into the squad, providing Spurs with a much-needed attacking spark.
His debut could realistically come in Tottenham’s next Premier League fixture against West Ham United at the London Stadium, a match where Spurs will be desperate to respond after the defeat to Bournemouth.
