Xavi Simons will be at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon after completing his move from RB Leipzig. The attacking midfielder's £51.8million transfer to Spurs was confirmed at 5pm on Friday, with the Netherlands international penning a long-term deal in the capital.
Simons' Tottenham transfer comes after the club had missed out on both Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze earlier in the window. However, the signing of the 22-year-old has gone down extremely well with all connected to the club given what he has so far produced in his career and what is still to come from him.
Simon's move from RB Leipzig has come too late for him to be involved in Saturday's game at home to Bournemouth. The new addition will be present at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the match, though, as he will be presented in front of the home faithful ahead of kick-off.
A tweet from Tottenham on Saturday morning read: "Xavi will be introduced to fans shortly before kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon. Make sure you get to your seats early to welcome our latest signing!"
Tottenham fans will have to wait until after the international break to see the new signing make his first appearance in a Spurs shirt. The Lilywhites are away at West Ham on Saturday, September 13 once domestic action resumes.
Speaking to the club fresh from signing on the dotted line, he said: “I’m really happy. I’m really happy as well for my family, we’ve been dreaming about this for a long time. Always in my career they’ve been with me, so being with them in this moment is special."
Simons added: "First of all, the project suited me. The second most important thing for me is the coach. I spoke to him, he showed me a presentation that really impacted me and that was the final decision for me. It’s the right coach, the right people and I believe that we will achieve really good things.
“Obviously, we spoke about football – the way he sees the team, the way he sees me in the team. The second part was that I had a really, really, really good feeling with him. I think that connection that you have and that you need at the start with someone is important, and after the meeting I said to my family, ‘yeah, this is it!’”
