With six Premier League games now gone, we take a look at the yellow card tally of the Tottenham players to see if any of them have to worry about a suspension in the near future.
While there is plenty of optimism at Spurs at the start of the Thomas Frank era, some Tottenham fans are now getting concerned about the team’s inability to break down teams.
Tottenham once again struggled to create chances against Wolves, with Thomas Frank agreeing that Spurs have to be a lot better offensively.
This is now becoming a bit of a theme with the Lilywhites, who also struggled to fashion opportunities at home against Villarreal and Bournemouth.
How is Tottenham’s disciplinary record under Thomas Frank?
It is undeniable that Spurs have improved defensively under the Dane, with the North Londoners having kept five clean sheets in eight matches across all competitions this season.
Another aspect where the team has seen a marked improvement is in their disciplinary record.
Players in the Premier League have to serve a one-match suspension if they accumulate five yellow cards in the first half of the season (until gameweek 19).
However, according to the Premier League website, Tottenham have just two players who have more than one yellow card so far: Cristian Romero and Lucas Bergvall.
Both players have been cautioned just twice so far, which means that Frank does not have to worry about losing any of his players to a suspension anytime soon.
Cristian Romero’s disciplinary improvement has gone under the radar
Many at Tottenham, including Thomas Frank, have labelled Romero as one of the best in the world.
While that is something that Spurs fans, who watch him week-in, week-out, are aware of, the Argentine still does not get the credit he deserves from the media.
Over the weekend, Joelean Lescott labelled Romero as the most overrated player in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, that is still not a rare opinion in the UK media circles, with the 27-year-old still struggling to shake off his reputation as being rash, even though there is now clear long-term evidence that his disciplinary record has improved markedly.
