Despite a Tsunami warning in Japan following an earthquake in Russia, Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Yokohama F Marinos will proceed as planned. The Reds are set to face off against the Japanese team at 11:30am BST (6:30am ET)
Liverpool kicked off its pre-season campaign with a 3-1 triumph over Preston in mid-July, an event that was particularly poignant for fans and players alike due to the passing of Diogo Jota just 10 days prior. The Merseyside titans then jetted off to Hong Kong last week, where they suffered a 4-2 loss to AC Milan on Friday.
Their third pre-season match is scheduled to take place at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, after which Slot's squad will return home to play consecutive matches against Athletic Bilbao on Monday.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a colossal 8.7 magnitude earthquake hit off the far eastern coast of Russia.
Subsequently, a Tsunami struck Japan's large northern island of Hokkaido, with the Japan Meteorological Agency reporting an initial wave of about one foot in height reaching Nemuro, reports the Express.
The Agency further clarified that a Tsunami as tall as 1.3 feet had been observed in 16 locations as the waves travelled south towards Tokyo.
Residents have been warned of larger waves to come, with nearly two million people advised to evacuate their homes.
Warnings have been issued from Hokkaido in the north to the Wakrayama prefecture in the south, a stretch spanning hundreds of miles. The Japan Meteorological Agency has cautioned that Tsunami waves could reach up to three metres in height.
