11 players could miss Arsenal vs Man City as injury updates revealed

3 hours ago 2

Arsenal have a host of injury issues to contend with as they prepare to return to Premier League action on Sunday when they take on Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have won three and lost just one of their opening four games of the campaign. They sit in second place in the Premier League table, three points behind leaders Liverpool.

City, meanwhile, are currently in eighth place, having won two and lost two of their opening four games of the campaign.

Ahead of the showdown, both teams have some injury worries, meaning there are a few doubts for the game.

Arsenal will definitely be without longer-term absentees Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, who are continuing their recoveries from their respective injuries. There could be some joining them on the sidelines with major doubts over the trio of Ben White, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “If there is a chance, it will be after tomorrow's session because they haven't done anything yet, so we'll have more information tomorrow.”

He added: “Everything has been modified so far for them, and there are still a few things to clear, and tomorrow we'll have more information whether they are part of the squad, they have a chance to be part of the squad or not.”

There is also a doubt over whether defender William Saliba, who was an unused substitute in Tuesday night's Champions League clash against Athletic Club, will be able to start the match.

“Let's see. Obviously, he's been carrying an injury,” Arteta said. “He's done really well to be available for the last match. He's really pushing it, so we'll decide tomorrow what's the best start.”

There was, however, some good news with the Arsenal boss confirming that both striker Viktor Gyokeres and midfielder Mikel Merino will be available after suffering head injuries in the midweek game.

City have also been handed a boost with defender John Stones expected to be available for the match. The player has been training, but wasn’t included in the squad for Thursday night’s game vs Napoli.

There is still doubts over a few players. Forward Rayan Cherki will be on the sidelines a bit longer with a thigh injury, while Omar Marmoush will be back before the international break, but the game against Arsenal will probably come too soon.

It’s a similar situation for midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who is making his way back from an Achilles injury. Kalvin Phillips is also yet to make an appearance this season due to the same problem.

One player who could possibly return is Rayan Ait-Nouri. The player picked up an ankle injury against Tottenham, but the injury is not expected to rule him out for too long.
