International breaks are pretty much universally unpopular, but thankfully we are into the last one until March, having also seen the Premier League season disrupted for two weeks in both September and October.
The Reds went into the break with plenty of question marks hanging over their season after the 3-0 loss to Manchester City marked a seventh defeat in 10 games in all competitions.
For the players, the break may be a welcome one as it allows them to divert their attention away from their club struggles and focus on helping out their countries.
Over a dozen Liverpool players received international call-ups, and here are a few things we spotted during their training sessions over the last couple of days...
Mac Allister in training with Messi
Alexis Mac Allister has endured a difficult few months, but was back to something like his best during the recent wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
Given his fitness issues in 2025, Liverpool will hope he returns to Merseyside over the weekend unscathed Argentina's friendly with Angola.
Mac Allister was pictured being put through his paces alongside Lionel Messi, who is gearing up for his last World Cup next year.
Van Dijk's rondo struggles
There are three Liverpool players in the Netherlands' squad – and there would would probably be four were it not for Jeremie Frimpong's hamstring problem.
Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk all linked up with their international teammates ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.
A video of one of the team's training drills was uploaded to the Netherlands' team's X account, and it showed Van Dijk laughing away during a rondo, as he tried – and failed – to dispossess the group with the ball.
Mamardashvili flies high
Giorgi Mamardashvili could soon find himself out of the Liverpool team, with Alisson expected to return to the fold after the international break.
But there is little danger of him losing his place in the Georgia team any time soon, and he was picture flying high as he tipped a shot over the bar during training ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Turkey.
Unfortunately for Mamardashvili, Georgia looks unlikely to make it to next summer's tournament as the team is currently six points off a play-off spot with just two games remaining.
Wirtz prepares
Florian Wirtz has endured a difficult few months, and criticism has not escaped him at international level either.
Wirtz is German soccer's golden boy – along with Jamal Musiala, perhaps – and class is permanent, so we can expect to see the best of him soon.
He'll hope that he can really kick his season into gear in Germany's games against Luxembourg and Slovakia, with World Cup qualification still not assured for Julian Nagelsmann's side.
