Alan Shearer has admitted it’s “not nice” watching Mohamed Salah continue to struggle as he brings his Liverpool career to an end.
Salah will of course depart Anfield this summer after coming to an agreement to end his Liverpool contract early, with the final year of his deal being waived.
The Egypt international announced his decision last month amid what has been a difficult individual season for him, and a poor campaign all round for the Reds. Salah has just 10 goals from 35 appearances in all competitions, and is set to record his lowest return since joining the club in 2017.

The 33-year-old had already spurned a few great opportunities to score before seeing his penalty saved just after the hour mark, with Arne Slot eventually taking him off with 12 minutes still remaining in the game.
It made for tough viewing not only for Liverpool fans, many of whom left the Etihad Stadium early, but also for Premier League legend Shearer.

“Salah’s miles off it,” Shearer said on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football. “That chance he had in the first half.
“[Abdukodir] Khusanov had the chance to be barged off the ball, fall down, get back up and then challenge him again. He did the hard part in knocking him down, Salah.
“Unfortunately it’s not nice to see and then he misses the penalty as well, it was just one of those games. To see a Premier League great suffer like he did, it’s not nice.”

Salah will have at least nine more games to go before he brings the curtain down on his time at Liverpool, with the Reds facing a quick turnaround as they head to France next to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals.
Liverpool.com says: Shearer is saying exactly what all of us Liverpool fans are thinking. Watching Salah on Saturday was genuinely painful, and though his legacy at Anfield is secure, it would be so sad if this is the manner in which he leaves the club.
There is still time for him to make an impact before the end of the season, and he could still have a big part to play if Liverpool is to salvage something from this dismal season. Fingers crossed he can go out with a bang.
