7 players could miss Leeds vs Liverpool as Arne Slot confirms new injury scare

A total of seven players could be missing for Liverpool and Leeds on Saturday as the two sides go head-to-head at Elland Road.

Both sides head into the game under some pressure, with Arne Slot not yet in the clear after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Wednesday. With just four wins in their last 14 games in all competitions, the Reds are in desperate need of three points this weekend in order to boost their top-four hopes.

They’ll come up against a Leeds side high on confidence though after a win 3-1 win over Chelsea in midweek - Leeds' first win in five Premier League games. Daniel Farke remains under pressure though, with his side just two points above the relegation zone.

Both sides have had injury scares ahead of Saturday's game, with Slot revealing during his pre-match press conference on Friday that Joe Gomez had picked up a knock against West Ham last weekend.

The defender was able to start again in midweek, although he was withdrawn after the hour mark as a precaution, with Slot keeping his fingers crossed that there are no ill-effects for the England international.

Assuming Gomez is available, that just leaves three players who could be missing for Liverpool in Yorkshire, although Conor Bradley is hoping to be back available.

The right-back has been back in training this week after picking up a knock while on international duty with Northern Ireland, and Slot has confirmed he expects him to be available on Saturday.

Jeremie Frimpong remains out, although he looks on course to make his return later this month, while long-term absentee Giovanni Leoni isn’t expected back before the end of the season.

As for the host, Leeds could be without four key players, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Farke revealed on Thursday that the former Everton striker was suffering from problems with his calf after scoring in the win over Chelsea, admitting that there is a “question mark behind his availability.”

There are also doubts over Lukas Nmecha after the forward struggled with hamstring issues on Wednesday before eventually being brought off in the 67th minute. The 26-year-old is set to be assessed to see whether he can feature against Liverpool.

Leeds will definitely be without Dan James and Sean Longstaff though. The former picked up a hamstring injury against Manchester City and is set to miss around eight weeks, while the latter faces a lay-off of four to six weeks with a calf problem.

Liverpool will be hoping to make up some ground on the top four in its quest to revitalize its season, as well as ease some more pressure on Slot.

The Reds’ head coach faces some big decisions with his side, not least with Mohamed Salah after benching the Egyptian for the last two games, which has led to yet more speculation over a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
