There are dreams for AC Milan to sign a new striker in the January mercato. However, it will only be possible if a sacrifice is made.
Milan can win the Scudetto without a goalscoring striker. It will be tough, but it is not impossible. Massimiliano Allegri asked for a goalscorer when he joined, and he has had to make his own solution. So, the team must be looked at in January.
Until then, Santiago Gimenez has time to try and establish himself in Italy. However, his record so far does not show much hope of him being able to do so, at least not for the Rossoneri.
A must for January
Several names have been put forward for the winter mercato, but it seems that any moves will rest on Gimenez, as was the case in the summer. Given how problematic this was to signing a striker in the summer months, one would hope that there is a backup plan.
Gianluca Di Marzio spoke to Sky about the situation and Gimenez’s role moving forward, via MilanNews.
“Milan could do something up front. It’s the department that we’ve all identified, I think Milan too, as the one that could potentially be strengthened. In any case, I think the departure of Gimenez is a necessary condition.
“He struggled to process his departure in the summer, so much so that he then closed down all the possibilities that arose.

“I don’t know if anything has changed, but we’ll still have to wait for his return to the pitch. And as Tare said, there aren’t any great opportunities like this. Whoever has a strong striker tries to keep him.
“Everyone’s talking about West Ham’s Fullkrug, yes, his agent is trying to bring him to Italy, he’s putting him forward. So far, he hasn’t had any great responses from Italian clubs. He has a very high salary at West Ham.
“These are complex dynamics, but I’m convinced that Milan is ready to seize the opportunity. A lot will also depend on their league position, to understand whether to make an effort and what kind of effort.”
