AC Milan’s faint title hopes might have been dealt their biggest blow yet as they could only draw with Como at San Siro on Wednesday night.
The away side were gifted the lead with Nico Paz slotted in after Mike Maignan misjudged a pass from inside his own box. Rafael Leao levelled things in the second half with a 25-yard lob, but Milan didn’t offer enough to go on and win the game as it finished 1-1.
The result means that the Rossoneri are now seven points behind their city rivals Inter, with just 12 games to go and 36 points to be won. A bit of a miracle will be needed from here, though the unbeaten run keeps going.
Today’s front pages
Below is how the Italian newspapers look this morning, and while there is a lot of emphasis on Inter’s nightmare in Norway, Milan’s draw gets a mention.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan held. Maignan mistake, Leao equalises. Allegri and Fabregas tension. In the game in hand against Como, it’s 1-1.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Bodo shaming. A seven-point lead over Milan in the league is no consolation for Chivu. In the rescheduled league match against Como, Leao saves Allegri (1-1), who is then sent off. Paz’s goal, but he’s suspended for Juventus.”
Tuttosport: “Maignan’s gaffe. Leao saves Milan. Allegri sent off, can only get to -7. Nico Paz (suspended for Juve) complicates Milan’s hopes of a comeback against Inter.”
QS: “Paz’s strike, Leao responds. Milan-Como ends 1-1.”
