AC Milan have announced that legendary goalkeeper Lorenzo Buffon has passed away at the age of 95.

Buffon was one of the first true great goalkeepers in Milan’s history, playing 277 times for the Rossoneri and also going on to represent Inter too. He is regarded as one of Italy’s best in the position too, having appeared for the national team 15 times.

With Milan he won four Serie A titles during a dominant decade in the 1950s, working under head coaches like Antonio Busini, Gunnar Gren, Ettore Puricelli and Giuseppe Vani. He represented the Azzurri as captain and starting goalkeeper in the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile.

On their social media, Milan wrote: “His ‘pliers’ hands made Milan a great protagonist of countless victories in the Fifties. Lorenzo the Magnificent, a good man with a big Rossonero heart, has left us. It is with great emotion that we bid farewell to Lorenzo Buffon and honour his memory.”
