AC Milan turn head-to-head clashes from weakness to strength – the numbers

AC Milan’s record against potential European rivals continues to go from strength to strength with each head-to-head game.

Milan have been outstanding in the ‘six-pointer’ games thus far in 2025-26. Looking at the table, Massimiliano Allegri’s side have already played the other sides in the top five places, and they emerged victorious in all four games.

Not only that, but in those four games they won three of them 1-0 (against Bologna, Roma and most recently Inter) while winning the other 2-1 against Napoli. They have not conceded a goal from open play in a direct clash, with Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty the only goal let in.

With almost a third of the season in the books, it’s already possible to take stock of the big teams’ head-to -head record. Milan have faced the most rivals for the top spots, and they have earned the most points. MilanPress relay the ranking:

➤ Milan: 17 points in 7 games (Bologna, Napoli, Juventus, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Roma, Inter)
➤ Roma: 9 points in 5 games (Bologna, Lazio, Fiorentina, Inter, Milan)
➤ Napoli: 9 points in 5 games (Fiorentina, Milan, Inter, Bologna, Atalanta)
➤ Inter: 9 points in 6 games (Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina, Lazio, Milan)
➤ Juventus: 6 points in 5 games (Inter, Atalanta, Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina)
➤ Lazio: 4 points in 4 games (Roma, Atalanta, Juventus, Inter)
➤ Bologna: 4 points in 4 games (Roma, Milan, Fiorentina, Napoli)
➤ Atalanta: 3 points in 4 games (Juventus, Lazio, Milan, Napoli)
➤ Fiorentina: 2 points in 6 games (Napoli, Roma, Milan, Bologna, Inter, Juventus)

A stark contrast

Milan’s record in the games against European rivals has drastically improved. In fact, the average points per game has gone from 0.69 (11 points out of 48 available) in 2024-25 to 2.4 (17 points out of 21) this season.

Roma are currently top of the standings and they have gone from 1.12 to 1.8 PPG in direct clashes. Napoli remained stable, going from 1.88 (30 points out of 48) to 1.8. Atalanta saw the biggest decline, going from 1.69 to 0.75 points per game.

Inter, meanwhile, have already lost matches against Napoli, Juventus and Sunday’s derby against Milan. While they are doing better against sides in the bottom half, losing six-pointers is never ideal.
