AC Milan Women played a great game against Roma on Sunday afternoon but came away with zero points in the end, conceding two late goals.
Suzanne Bakker’s side headed into today’s game with decent confidence, having won the opener against Genoa thanks to a 97th-minute goal. Sure enough, they looked confident on the pitch despite taking on Roma, who finished third last season.
In the first half, the Rossonere had two dangerous chances in particular to take the lead, first through Chante Dompig (who missed the target) and then Evelyn Ijeh (who was denied by the keeper). However, the scores remained 0-0 as the referee blew for half-time.
It was much of the same in the second half, with Milan pushing for an opener. They eventually managed to get it, more specifically in the 76th minute, as Key-Lee de Sanders found the back of the net with a nice volley.
In the 84th minute, however, Roma made the most of a corner and found their equaliser. Suddenly, the momentum of the game changed and the Giallorossi pushed for the turnaround, which arrived in the 91st minute, as a long ball found Giugliano in a good position.
For the Rossonere, it was a huge blow as they actually were the better side for a majority of the game. With more composure, they could have scored more and thus killed the game earlier. Lesson learned for next week, we suppose.
