AC Milan Women coughed up a two-goal lead in the second half of their game against Sassuolo, conceding a late equaliser to draw 2-2.
In their last game, Milan suffered a tough defeat 1-0 against Como on Saturday evening, conceding a penalty in injury time after a lengthy VAR check. The Rossonere’s Milicia Keijzer was sent off for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, and Nischler sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
Going into the home game against Sassuolo on Sunday, Suzanne Bakker’s side were aiming for three points to stay in touch at the top of the table. The Neroverdi were defeated by Ternana in the last matchday, so both teams were out for revenge.
After a first half in which both sides traded chances but not goals, everything sprung into life. It started with Park’s opener after she had just come off the bench, with the forward converting Cernoia’s cross with her head to make it 1-0.
Just nine minutes later, it was 2-0 to the Rossonere. Ijeh got the goal this time as she too fired in from a Cernoia assist, this time with a left-footed shot that beat Durand in the Neroverde goal.
Then, the game turned completely just before the hour mark when Dompig saw red. She lunged for the ball and planted her studs, which meant the referee issued a straight sending off.
In minute 75, Sassuolo got themselves back into it through Clelland’s stunning strike from range. In the sixth minute of eight added, Sabatino headed in a Clelland free-kick to earn the away side a draw right at the death.
