The agent of Gianluigi Donnarumma has admitted that AC Milan remain ‘like a first love’ to the goalkeeper.
Donnarumma came through the youth academy at Milan and made his first-team debut when he was just 16 years of age. He looked destined to potentially break records with his boyhood club, and yet he left on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, replaced by Mike Maignan.
This summer, Donnarumma was rather shoved out of the door by PSG despite being a Champions League winner just weeks prior. The Italian headed to Manchester City, with Luis Enrique having pushed for Lucas Chevalier’s arrival from Lille to replacee him.
‘You never forget it’
Some called for Milan to try for Gigio, and though it didn’t happen the bond between Donnarumma and Milan will always remain, according to his agent Vincenzo Raiola. He spoke CRC Radio, with his comments via MilanPress.
“Milan? Your first team is like your first love, you never forget it. After that, work leads you to see other situations. When he was 10, he played at the Maradona Stadium. He also has great respect for Napoli, which is also a family thing,” he said.
