‘Aiming to win’ – Gabbia admits Milan dressing room ‘wasn’t happy’ after Juventus draw

Matteo Gabbia has admitted that the AC Milan dressing room is not a happy one after the draw against Juventus.

Milan’s five-game winning run across all competitions was ended on Sunday night at the Allianz Stadium by Juventus in a 0-0 draw, with some positives to take from the game but also some bitterness too.

Starting with the plus points, it was another clean sheet for Massimiliano Allegri’s men who have conceded just three goals all season so far. The defensive effort was stellar once again, and Mike Maignan pulled off a save that got him Player of the Match.

On the other hand though, there will be some regret about missed chances. Christian Pulisic skied a penalty and Rafael Leao scuffed a couple off the bench that he should have done better with, meaning it ended goalless.

‘We wanted to win’

Gabbia spoke at a post-match press conference before Massimiliano Allegri followed to give his thoughts, and the comments from the centre-back are via MilanNews.

What feeling are you left with?

“It’s a bit disappointing; we wanted to win. But I’m a positive person by nature and always try to take the best from it. There were definitely some positive things, but we’ll analyse the negative ones.

“This match is part of the journey we’re going through this season. A draw isn’t a victory, but we gave everything we had on the pitch.”

Milan have only conceded in two games, and you were called up by Italy…

“Being called up to the national team makes me proud, I try to do my best. Credit goes to my colleagues, my teammates, and the coach. Thanks to them.”

Rabiot said ‘two points dropped’. Was this also the mood in the dressing room?

“The atmosphere in the dressing room obviously wasn’t happy, we were all aiming to win the match. Then there are the opponents, but our goal is to win: we can’t be as happy as if we’d won.”

Milan looked very good on set pieces…

“Preparing for dead balls is important and takes weeks, and we are working on it very carefully.”
