Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton are both backing Liverpool to finish 2025 with a win over Wolves, with the former insisting there’s “no hope” for the Premier League’s bottom side.
The Reds close out the year back at Anfield on Saturday as Arne Slot’s side looks to extend its recent unbeaten run to seven games across all competitions. Liverpool has managed to find some form after a dismal couple of months which saw its hopes of defending its title effectively come to an end.
It will now have its sights set on finishing in the top four and securing a place in next season’s Champions League - the Reds currently sit level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea with just over half the season still to go.

The striker faces a lengthy lay-off after breaking his leg during last weekend’s game against Tottenham.
Liverpool is also without Mohamed Salah, who is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, and the suspended Dominik Szoboszlai, while Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo are both doubts.
The Reds will still be favorites though against a Wolves side that has only managed to accumulate two points from its 17 games so far, and looks destined for relegation, with former Newcastle and England striker Shearer only seeing Saturday’s game going one way.

“Wolves are on track to break the record for the worst Premier League team ever,” he told Betfair. “To have that around your neck for a long time would hurt, but that's what they've got to aim not to have.
“I know they made life tough for Arsenal and they're going to try and play the same way at Liverpool, but I don't see anything other than a home win. Liverpool got the points against Spurs even if it wasn't a great performance. The injury to Isak will hurt them, but they'll have enough to beat Wolves.
“Wolves struggle to score goals and struggle to keep them out. There's no hope for them; they're already relegated as far as I'm concerned.

“You wouldn't want to carry that tag around being the worst Premier League team ever. Somehow, they've got to get some belief to try and get out of that, but I don't see it. They haven't improved under the new manager, but I suspect that is because of the players they've sold and not replaced.”
Shearer’s former Blackburn strike partner Sutton agrees, having predicted a 2-0 win for Liverpool for BBC Sport.
“Wolves did really well to hold out for so long at Arsenal recently, and that kind of backs-against-the-wall defending seems to suit them,” Sutton said.
“They will try to make things awkward for Liverpool too, but I don't see it working out for them.”
