Alan Shearer makes prediction on Mohamed Salah's future after Liverpool questions

1 week ago 40

Alan Shearer said there is "no doubt" that Mohamed Salah's time will come again, amid the Egyptian's disappointing start to the season.

At the start of the year, Salah was the favorite to claim the 2025 Ballon d'Or, but just months later, there are question marks over whether his best days are firmly behind him. The Egyptian ended a lengthy wait for a Premier League goal from open play on Saturday in Liverpool's loss to Brentford, having been restored to the starting line-up after being benched for the Champions League trip to Frankfurt in midweek.

Ahead of the game, Shearer backed the 33-year-old to rediscover his best form.

"I think the biggest situation Arne Slot has to handle is getting them back to winning ways in the league," Shearer said.

"When you are not playing well, as he (Salah) hasn't been and he has not been been scoring goals and Liverpool have not been getting the results, a manager has every right, no matter how how big you are, to leave you out, and if he leaves you out of the team they they get a really impressive performance and result he has a decision decision to make.

"He is going through a bad time. He is a quality player.

"His time will come again, no doubt about it.

"Good players are not down for long.

"It's how you get through that, and I'm sure Salah will, he is too good not to."

Mohamed Salah during Liverpool's loss to Brentford

Salah has endured a difficult season so far

Salah scored for Liverpool in the closing stages of the loss to Brentford to make it 3-2, but the Reds could not find an equalizer, and have now lost their last four games in the Premier League.

Slot is hopeful that the strike will prove to be a turning point for the Egyptian, who has had a difficult start to the campaign, but said it will take more than Salah's goals to help the team hit top form once again.

"If Mo is going to go on a scoring run then that is definitely going to be important for the team," Slot said.

"Football is about scoring goals but football is also about not conceding goals and for so many games now we have scored one, two, three goals and almost every time in the first five minutes.

"It would help the team if we have players that score goals but that only helps if, as a team, we can keep a clean sheet and that is not only what the last line does but what we as a team needs to do better."
