Alan Shearer is set to grace the BBC's FA Cup coverage once again as the historic tournament makes its return. The former Magpie will be on hand to provide expert analysis for Crystal Palace's away fixture against non-league side Macclesfield Town this Saturday.

The Premier League's top scorer of all time has carved out a reputation as one of the nation's leading pundits since retiring from professional football in 2006. In addition to his analytical duties, Shearer has also been a frequent voice in the commentary box.

Once the world's costliest player when Newcastle shelled out a record £15 million for him in 1996, Shearer's estimated net worth of £40m continues to grow, thanks in part to his annual BBC salary of between £440,000 and £444,999.

Beyond his role with the broadcaster, the ex-England forward also works with Amazon and contributes to Gary Lineker's Goalhanger Podcasts show, The Rest is Football. Away from the pitch, Shearer is a devoted husband and father, having been married to his wife Lainya for 35 years.

The couple first crossed paths while Shearer was playing for Southampton. Shearer has previously spoken about Lainya's preference for staying out of the limelight, but he did share some insight into her role in his move from Southampton to Blackburn Rovers in 1992.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer recalled his wife Lainya's rather forthright reaction when he broke the news of his transfer whilst she was heavily pregnant. He revealed to fellow presenters Gary Lineker and Micah Richards: "When she was eight months pregnant... she looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done?'"

Shearer and Lainya are parents to three children: their son Will, 25, and daughters Chloe, 32, and Hollie, 30. Each of them has built up a considerable social media presence, with Will attracting 18,000 Instagram followers, Chloe commanding 20,000, whilst Hollie leads the pack with nearly 82,000.

Pop artist Hollie maintains an active online profile, with her most streamed track on Spotify reaching over 1.5 million plays. She's equally prominent on TikTok, where she shares fashion and lifestyle content with close to 335,000 followers.

Meanwhile, Chloe has carved out a career in talent management. Despite pursuing different professional routes, the sisters share a notable parallel in their romantic lives - both are in relationships with rugby players. Hollie became engaged to England international Joe Marchant in November 2024.

The 29-year-old centre, who plies his trade for Stade Francais in France's Top 14, proposed in the French capital, with Hollie displaying her stunning engagement ring against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. The couple went public with their relationship in April 2022, and Hollie made the move to Paris alongside Marchant in 2024.

Meanwhile, Chloe is dating scrum-half Micky Young, to whom she got engaged in November. The 37-year-old had an impressive 11-year stint at Newcastle Falcons, split over two periods, before departing the English club in 2023 for a final season at Gloucester.

In recognition of his notable service at Newcastle, Young was granted a testimonial year last August, one of the highlights being a football dinner with his future father-in-law.
