Days after bowing out of the FA Cup to Manchester City, Liverpool faces another daunting test in the form of defending Champions League winners PSG this week.

Arne Slot’s side was already the underdog against the title-holders, but its odds to advance have worsened after the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City, which marked the worst loss of Slot’s managerial reign. It comes as Jurgen Klopp is ‘waiting’ for Liverpool as pressure continues to grow on Slot.

The Reds are now priced at +150 (6/4) to get past PSG over two legs, with the first clash set for Wednesday at the Parc des Princes. Luis Enrique’s side will make the return trip to Anfield six days later, and they’ve since tightened to -200 (1/2) favorites to reach the competition’s semifinals.

Before the embarrassment against Manchester City, which prompted FSG to tell Slot they might have no choice but to sack him if results don’t improve soon, Liverpool was a narrow +125 (5/4) underdog to advance to the UCL semifinal.

The international break did little to rejuvenate Liverpool, who slipped to a 2–1 defeat against Brighton in their final Premier League outing before the hiatus.

They began Saturday’s FA Cup clash brightly but failed to capitalize and were punished before the interval once Erling Haaland struck twice in quick succession.

The Norwegian opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 39th minute after Virgil van Dijk fouled Nico O’Reilly in the area, then added a second in first-half stoppage time with a precise header into the far corner.

City seized full control after the restart. Just 12 minutes into the second half, Antoine Semenyo extended the lead with a deft left-footed chip over Giorgi Mamardashvili, before Haaland completed his hat-trick seven minutes later.

Mohamed Salah had a chance to respond from the penalty spot in the 64th minute, but his effort was saved by James Trafford to compound a frustrating afternoon for the Reds.

It will take a significant turnaround to avoid further embarrassment on Wednesday against PSG, who arrive in fine form after dismantling Chelsea 8–2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Slot’s side has already shown it can rise to the occasion on a big Champions League night, thrashing Galatasaray 4–0 to book its place in the quarterfinals.

However, the reigning champions represent a far sterner challenge than any team the Reds have faced so far.
